Several tiers of grant, funding companies from Phase 0 stage to post SBIR/STTR award. Phase 0 funds up to $2,000; SBIR / STTR full grant match funds Phase I up to $50,000 and Phase II up to $75,000.​
The Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer (SBIR / STTR) Matching Grant Program will support research-focused, San Antonio small businesses that have received a federal SBIR/STTR grant. It is intended to support San Antonio startup companies that have a high potential for commercial viability to establish new markets and spur export-oriented growth. Grant Funding: Phase I eligible companies may qualify for up to $50,000 in grant funding and Phase II eligible companies may qualify for up to $75,000. The total award funding available is capped at no more than $500,000. Applications for matching grants will be accepted and considered on a first-come-first-served basis. The grant program application window is subject to close at City’s discretion or once available funds are exhausted. Final awards are subject to City Council approval. Eligibility: Phase I and Phase II federal SBIR/STTR recipients must meet the following criteria: - Be a for-profit, privately owned business - Be headquartered in the City of San Antonio - Have 40 or fewer employees - Applicants must complete and submit a grant application in order to be considered for the SBIR/STTR Matching Grant Program. Grant application forms will be posted on the Economic Development Department’s website. NOTE: Grant program requirements and eligibility criteria are subject to change at City’s discretion. Phase I Grant Recipients must meet the following criteria: - Has received an SBIR/STTR Phase I award from a participating federal agency prior to application - SBIR/STTR federal Phase I award must be active at the time of applying for the match grant - Must not have applied for or received a notice of a follow-on Phase II federal award - Agree to remain headquartered in the City of San Antonio for the length of the Phase I match award - If the sponsoring agency has interest in the Phase II proposal for a Phase I recipient, then recipient must submit a Phase II proposal to the granting federal agency. - Upon agreement to the terms stipulated in the award letter, the company will receive 75% of the Phase I SBIR/STTR award matching grant. - Applicants may apply for the remaining 25% of the grant upon meeting the following additional conditions for each stage of the federal SBIR/STTR award Phase II Grant Recipients must meet the following criteria: - Has received an SBIR/STTR Phase II award from a participating federal agency prior to application - SBIR/STTR Phase II award funding must be active at time of application - For a Phase II matching grant, terms will include the intent of the company to conduct fifty-one percent of the research described in the Phase II award in the City of San Antonio and to remain a City of San Antonio business for the duration of the Phase II project
