greater:SATX sat down with Chuck Gregory, Senior Principal, Vice President, Regional Manager at Terracon Consultants, Inc. San Antonio Office, to find out more about this thriving organization.

Tell us a little bit about Terracon and your presence in the Greater San Antonio region.  

Since our founding in 1965, Terracon has grown and evolved to become a thriving, employee-owned, multidiscipline engineering consulting firm delivering facilities, environmental, geotechnical, and materials services. Our more than 6500 curious minds include engineers, scientists, architects, facilities experts, and field professionals focused on solving engineering and technical challenges from more than 175 locations nationwide. 

Terracon consistently ranks as a Top 25 design firm by Engineering News-Record. Our successful growth has included organic expansion and innovation, as well as the acquisition of more than 60 firms with specialized capabilities. A focused and uncompromising dedication to safety has been integral to how we support our employees, clients, and communities. 

Established in 1992, Terracon’s San Antonio office currently employs 150 employees, including 15 Licensed Professional Engineers and 3 Licensed Professional Geoscientists in the State of Texas. Currently, we are the fifth largest office within Terracon. We help our clients succeed in their business ventures by effectively executing projects, controlling costs, and managing risk. Our clients appreciate this approach, and they know that we intend to be with them for the long term. Terracon prides itself on our commitment to further bettering our community and supporting its continuous growth while employing a diverse workforce of varying cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Many of our employees have lived and worked in Bexar County their entire lives. 

How do you see yourself growing in the future and continue positively impacting our Greater San Antonio region? 

The success of our company is based on the concept of Safe, Prosperous Growth. We are constantly looking for reasons and opportunities to broaden our client base in the Greater San Antonio region and throughout South Texas. Our aggressive goals include an increased market share, more office locations, strategic acquisitions and expanded services all driven by the needs of our clients. As a result, we create more opportunities for our current and future employees to grow in their careers. This shared success provides the resources for our employees to give back to their communities improving the quality of life for all affected. 

How would you like to see the San Antonio region continue to grow? 

Diversity is key to sustainable, prosperous growth in our region. We can’t have all of our “eggs in one basket”. Mobility is a close 2nd. Time and money are wasted sitting in traffic. Capitalizing on our unique resources while maintaining a favorable cost of living/quality of life ratio is key to our continued growth. If we take the lead and build it, they will come. 

Why did you invest in greater:SATX? 

For way too long, we sat on the sidelines. We made a decision to “Get In The Game”. We are very pleased with the opportunities that our membership has generated and look forward to continued mutual success. 

Is there anything else you’d like to share?  

Terracon is wholly owned by our employees. As such, we plot our own course which, for instance, allowed us to do some creative things to reward our employees as we forged our way through COVID, without asking the folks who answer to the stock market.   

We are a great combination of the good things that come with both a small and large company. 


Small Company--Local control with the authority and responsibility to do what it takes at the local/regional level to be successful (staying within the Terracon fence lines of course). Ready face-to-face access to local decision makers. Embedded in the communities that we serve. We can change course at a moment’s notice when the phone rings or the email is received. 

Large Company—Support from our corporate staff with regards to legal, HR, accounting, marketing, business development and training through Terracon University. Resources and buying power of a large, successful, financially stable company.
