SA2DC 2026: Advancing San Antonio’s Voice on International Trade and Federal Policy

Staff Reports

As part of the Greater San Antonio Chamber’s annual SA2DC advocacy trip, regional business and civic leaders traveled to Washington, D.C. to engage federal decision‑makers on policies shaping San Antonio’s long-term economic competitiveness.

The coordinated effort brought together partners across sectors to elevate shared regional priorities and strengthen ongoing federal relationships.

Within the broader SA2DC agenda, greater:SATX served as the International Trade issue lead, guiding strategy and directly securing high-level meetings to ensure San Antonio’s economic priorities were represented in key federal policy conversations affecting international trade, supply chain, workforce access, and overall global business growth.

A Regional Effort

SA2DC convened executives, investors, regional organizations, and elected officials for discussions with federal agencies, national associations, and policy leaders.

Conversations focused on issues with both immediate relevance and long-term impact, including trade policy, workforce mobility, transportation and infrastructure, small business support, and emerging industries.

Leading the International Trade Track

As International Trade issue lead, greater:SATX directly secured meetings with key federal agencies and national business and trade organizations, ensuring San Antonio engaged on policy areas central to the region’s economy and global competitiveness.

Discussions focused on the importance of the US-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) to regional manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive supply chains; the impact of tariffs and broader trade policy on business certainty and operating costs; and immigration and workforce policy, particularly H‑1B visas and other employment-based visa programs critical to employers with international operations.

Through these engagements, regional leaders reinforced San Antonio’s reliance on stable, predictable federal policy to support cross border commerce, talent mobility, and long‑term growth.

Positioning San Antonio for Long-term Competitiveness

Trade and talent access were consistently framed as competitive advantages for the San Antonio region.

greater:SATX worked alongside regional employers and partners, including major regional investors such as Boeing, USAA, FORMA Automotive, True Flavors, SWBC, and others, to elevate the city’s role in global supply chains and highlight the intersection of federal trade, immigration, and economic policy with local business needs.

Advocacy That Extends Beyond Washington

Although SA2DC is anchored in Washington, its impact extends well beyond the trip itself.

By working in close coordination with the Greater San Antonio Chamber and regional partners like the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber and the South Texas Business Partnership, greater:SATX continues to build momentum that strengthens San Antonio’s economic position and elevates the region’s voice in federal policy discussions.
