Cibolo is a community that is proud of its historic roots, responsive to residents, and innovating for its future.
It has also seen incredible growth in its diversity of industry and commerce over the past 5 years and Cibolo residents have more options than ever to pursue meaningful careers close to home that improve their quality of life and contribute to the overall health of the community.
We sat down with Go Medina’s Planning and Economic Development Director, Kelsee Lee, to find out more about this community.
Tell us about City of Cibolo Economic Development.
The City of Cibolo Economic Development Department helps build a community where people love to work, visit, and live through the retention, expansion, and recruitment of business. Staff support the work of other City departments and the Cibolo Economic Development Corporation, a non-profit corporation created in 2007 by the citizens of Cibolo under Chapters 501-505 of the Texas Local Government Code.
What makes Cibolo unique within the San Antonio region?
The City of Cibolo is the “City of Choice” ideally located on the Interstate 10 and Interstate 35 corridors and continues to grow with over 35,000 people and a historic downtown with local shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Cibolo has also seen incredible growth in its diversity of industry and commerce over the past five years and Cibolo residents have more options than ever to pursue meaningful careers close to home that improve their quality of life and contribute to the overall health of the community. The City of Cibolo was selected by H-E-B to be one of the select locations of an e-commerce fulfilment center which will serve the greater region through the integration of innovative technologies.
If you could highlight one major statistic or project, what would it be?
The recruitment of Aisin (formerly AW Texas) along the IH-10 corridor was a landmark project that continues to transform the southern portion of the city. Aisin brings hundreds of jobs in advanced manufacturing that support not only Cibolo residents through careers but also provides an identity for the city. What is most gratifying to see, is that they have continued to do well in Cibolo that they have undertaken an expansion that doubles their footprint to approximately 1 million sq ft, further planting their flag in the “City of Choice.”
