greater:SATX sat down with VIA Technology President Founder Manuel Villa to find out more about this growing organization.
Tell us a little bit about VIA Technology and your presence in the Greater San Antonio region.
Since 1995, VIA Technology has been dedicated to providing IT solutions to clients in various industries, including construction, federal, state and local governments, educational institutions, and commercial clients. In 2020 we added IoT “Internet of Things” to our core offerings.
Our Beginnings
From day one our focus has been OUT STANDING customer service. We are technology and vendor agnostic always keeping our clients’ needs at the forefront. VIA Technology started off as an IBM, HP and Sun Microsystems reseller. Our earliest customers were in the automotive industry and needed our expert assistance in buying UNIX-based workstations and servers for CAD and back-office applications.
Our Expanded Outlook
With our IoT focus we see tremendous opportunities in AI, Physical Security (Video Surveillance, Access Control, Intrusion & Gunshot detection systems), Audio Visual, Networking/Wi-Fi, Cybersecurity and other related systems and technologies for Schools, Aviation, Healthcare, Utilities, Public Venues, and Government.
Some of our projects in the greater San Antonio Region include:
VIA Metropolitan Transit System
Ft. Sam Houston
East Central ISD Freeman Coliseum

Opportunity Home San Antonio
Port San Antonio

How do you see yourself growing in the future and continue positively impacting our Greater San Antonio region?
To be fully successful and to continue to grow, we will be guided by our (4) Core Values – Do the right thing, invest in our People, give back to the Community, and Never Surrender. We Will continue to focus not only on being No. 1 in high quality workmanship, but we give back to our own community, and projects that are dear to our hearts. We are honored to have been acknowledged by local and national organizations and publications for our growth and our commitment to community involvement. We have received awards from the San Antonio Business Journal, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Hispanic Magazine, the U.S. Department of Commerce, and the well-respected technology magazine, CRN, among others. We are grateful for this recognition, but you can bet that we don’t rest on our laurels. We continue to strive to be top in our field and we go for that goal powered by knowledge and determination.
How would you like to see the San Antonio region continue to grow?
San Antonio is an amazing and beautiful city! Our rich culture is enhanced by our proximity to the Mexican border, we will need to continue to invest in our strong partnership with our neighbors to the south. These investments will pay off in the long term to make this region one of the largest economies in the world.
Why did your organization invest in greater SATX?
We invested in the greater:SATX because of its amazing mission, its leadership and the fact the organization has a proven track record, and it delivers for the entire region not just one sector of the community. Not all prospects are good fits for our business model, and I see the greater:SATX has the same principles.
San Antonio is a melting pot of people and businesses. The city is populated with people from all over the world, giving it a unique and bold feel. I have come to love the culture and people here. Even though the population is large, the feel of the local community is still very quaint.
San Antonio offers something for everyone and is a place to build your dreams.
