This month, I’m pinch-hitting for SAEDF President & CEO, Jenna Saucedo-Herrera and sharing the POV from our marketing department.

We recently sent out our 2020 annual report. While going through the final review process, I looked back at the work we were doing in January 2020—it felt like much longer than a year ago. I pulled up our original (pre-COVID-19) 2020 operations plan for comparison and the differences reminded me exactly how “pivot” became a square on the 2020 Corporate Bingo card.

Our business development team typically spends most of the year on planes, meeting with companies and site selection consultants in large markets like L.A., The Bay Area, Chicago, D.C., and New York City. The circumstances of 2020 allowed us to “pivot” and focus on business and workforce recovery here at home, while meeting with prospects and managing development projects remotely. We also took the opportunity to grow our digital marketing program and meet our target audiences on a larger scale, and have since grown the project pipeline 55 percent from this time last year.

January 2021 has flown by as SAEDF, our partners, and stellar team of volunteer executive leaders launch a new, regional approach to economic development. Our plan for the next five years is simple, measurable, and inclusive, with action aimed at closing income gaps and growing economic opportunity for all.

We entered the year energized and with momentum on our side. The first quarter of 2021 will yield some exciting project announcements, website enhancements, and the largest targeted marketing campaigns SAEDF and SA Works have run in recent years. Telling the San Antonio Region’s story is more important than ever—both inside and outside our borders.

Over the coming weeks, our stories will be told on an unprecedented scale and we’re ready to move, learn, and then move again, getting smarter about our market and our targets along the way.
