How is the construction industry in South Texas evolving amid the pandemic?
The industry in South Texas, as well as throughout the US, is adapting to enhanced safety measures to ensure workers can complete their work in a safe and socially distanced environment. This continues to push innovation and the use of technology and prefabrication to streamline onsite installation. Making our people feel safe and supported as they come to work every day is our top priority. We take pride in our commitment to provide the safest possible work environment for everyone involved on our projects by fostering a culture of active caring.

We are proud to state that amid unprecedented circumstances, Turner has prevented any jobsite shutdowns, furloughs, or reduction in labor force/staff.

From a construction activity standpoint, the market is South Texas has been resilient throughout the pandemic. Although the Houston area has seen a downtick in activity, San Antonio and Austin remain strong. With that strong activity, we anticipate a continued strain on skilled worker availability throughout 2021 and 2022. This could present opportunities for people whose jobs have been impacted by the pandemic and are searching for their next career move.

It was recently announced that Turner will build Navistar’s new truck manufacturing facility in south San Antonio. Can you tell us a bit about the project?

The project will be five (5) buildings (general assembly, logistics, body shop, paint shop, and truck specialty center) totaling approximately 950,000 sq. ft. We are excited to play a small part in the economic development of South San Antonio and to have a hand in this new industry-leading manufacturing facility for Navistar diesel and electric trucks.

Our Team is moving quickly in the field, and additional opportunities for trade partners will be available over the next few months.
